Grain that
speaks depth.
Open grains veneer showcases the naturally large pores and prominent grain structure of species like oak, ash and elm — a tactile, dimensional surface that reads at close distance.
Not a species.
A finish.
Applied across the Vrikshat veneer range
Open grains veneer showcases the naturally large pores and prominent grain structure found in species like oak, ash and elm.
Unlike tight-grained woods, these veneers have visible texture and depth within the grain lines, adding a tactile and dimensional quality to the surface. The pores can be left open for maximum character, or filled and sanded for a smoother face — the same sheet, two different interior languages.
Open pores. Visible depth.
All wood has grain, but not every species has visible pores. Open grains species carry wider vessels that catch light differently and give the sheet its tactile character.
Visible pores.
Depth you can read.
Wide vessels run along the grain and remain visible on the finished face. Light catches each pore line, giving the surface depth and dimension that reads strongly at close distance.
Tight structure.
Uniform face.
Fine, closed vessels sit flush with the surface. The grain reads as colour and pattern rather than texture — takes a smooth polish without filling.
Two faces, same sheet.
Open grains can be left raw with pores visible, or filled and sanded for a smoother reading. The brochure recognises both — the choice sits with the project.
Option A
Raw & unfilled
Pores left open as cut. Maximum tactile depth, highest visible character. Lacquer or oil applied directly over the open pore structure.
Option B
Filled & sanded
Pores filled and face sanded for a smoother reading. The grain pattern remains visible but the surface levels to a plane — refined cabinetry territory.
Every species.
Without exception.
Three steps
to a readable face.
Each stage preserves the pore structure that gives open grains veneer its character.
Select veneer
A wide range of wood veneers is available for the open grains treatment. The selection is driven by species choice and the depth of pore visibility required for the project.
Open grain process
Pores are opened across the entire surface in a controlled process. The grain structure is highlighted uniformly without altering the species' colour or figure.
Ready finish
The sheet is delivered site-ready. Finish it raw to preserve pore depth, or fill and sand it on site for a refined cabinetry face.
Face thickness, spec-ready.
Pore density varies by species — a natural outcome of the open grains treatment, not a defect.
