Nature's wildest
figure.
Crafted from rare tree growths, burl veneer carries captivating swirls, eyes and dense figure — the most dramatic surface wood can offer. Each sheet is a one-off, by nature.
“Burls form rarely and unpredictably — each sheet a one-off landscape of swirls and eyes.”
Burl veneer is sliced from abnormal wood growths that form on the trunks, roots or branches of certain tree species — a response to stress, injury or environmental conditions. The resulting figure is a dense, chaotic swirl of grain lines and small eye-knots that cannot be grown to order and cannot be duplicated. Historically reserved for luxury automotive dashboards, executive desks and statement cabinetry, burl remains the veneer connoisseurs seek.

No two sheets are remotely alike. Burl cannot be matched across sheets — the figure is the signature.

A note on burl. Being a one-off material, variations in figure, colour and grain density are not just inherent — they are the character itself. Each sheet dispatched is photographed individually before shipping.
Not every tree burls.
These twelve do.
Burl formation requires specific stress conditions on specific species. These twelve produce the burl figures carried in the Vrikshat collection.
